Contrasting with the previous season’s organic forms and hand-drawn prints, Rachel James chose to draw inspiration from an entirely new source: technology. Fascinated by the beauty found in technical glitches on screens, scans and televisions, she manipulated images of these to form the basis of her prints and surface design. Playing on her constant theme of perfection/imperfection through her work, she made geometric shapes melt and warp, straight lines blur and flicker, and colours clash and jar with each other. Using a darker colour palette for Autumn/Winter, the collection mixes up cotton poplin to merino wool, foam-bonded jersey to technical fabrics and features fitted t-shirts, cropped trousers and tailored wool coats, to Japanese-inspired draped waterproof hoodies and harem pants.

The pattern cutting appears glitched too with slashes of contrasting fabrics breaking through garments unexpectedly and within the knitwear, traditional Aran stitches go rogue and machine-knitted panels are broken up. The mood is darker than before but is still playful and relaxed.

This collection was showcased at London Collections: Men and Capsule Show: Paris.

Rachel JAMES: relaunched & rebranded

It is with great excitement that we present the new-and-improved Rachel JAMES.

We have taken a little time out of the spotlight recently to re-focus our dynamic brand: refining what is important to us, reaching out for collaborations, and working away on fun new ideas.

We are more than a menswear label: we are a creative brand. We have all kinds of exciting things in the pipeline from womenswear to product design to children’s books. So watch this space!

And we kick it all off with our beautiful new website. Big shout out to Sarah Ferrari for the design and Rich Hughes for the copy.

We hope you love it as much as we do!

We are very excited to announce that next year we will be launching our first Rachel JAMES womenswear collection.

Everything else is top secret but stay up-to-date with our teasers by signing up to our womenswear mailing list and our specifically RJ womenswear Instagram account:
